Text by Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel:
Alberto Pitta sets the pace for “Stirring the Pot”, a group exhibition curated by Nancy Dantas that opens this summer in Comporta, Portugal.
Their works are imbued with the formal and symbolic lexicon of Afro-diasporic heritage, weaving an intricate cosmos of ancient mythology and vibrant graphic patterns throughout the exhibition space. On a vast and undulating surface, Pitta entangles images of Brazilian vernacular architecture, plant species and Candomblé iconography in vertical layers, referring to the invisible properties of these species and signs.
This year's edition of the collaborative summer exhibition is a partnership between Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel and Nara Roesler. The exhibition brings together five contemporary artists from different parts of the globe, tracing paths between Brazil, the United States and South Africa, in Portugal.
You can find this exhibition with free entry from July 13th until August 31st, 2024.
