Clearing, Fortes D’Aloia & Gabriel, and Madragoa are pleased to announce I Could Eat You, a collaborative exhibition at Casa da Cultura Comporta, Portugal, featuring works by represented artists and the special participation of two guest artists. This is the second edition of contemporary art showcases in the historic Comporta region during the European summer season.

I Could Eat You

I Could Eat You explores the phenomenon of “cute aggression,” a term coined by psychologists to describe the impulse some people feel to squeeze or bite cute beings, despite having no real intention to harm them. It is an example of a dismorphic emotional expression: the aggressive reaction does not seem to correspond to the tenderness it triggers. Instead of a violent assault, “I could eat you” evokes a type of annihilation closer to the bodily absorption of desired objects — as suggested by the metaphor of eating to which the expression refers.
